JKC at the GG Annex and Main

October Happenings

We are well into our second month of the school year and we’ve been so busy! Our groups at both centres are settling into routines and we are beginning to get a sense of where the children’s’ interests will take us. We have observed a strong desire to ‘collect and share’ whether it is Shopkins, Pokemon, or items found in nature.  Our pursuit here is to find items, categorize them, and share ideas and opinions in a social setting. As the children have demonstrated, the possibilities are endless when it comes to collecting!

Friday, October 23, Pro D Day

Both the Annex and the Main will be heading to the Pumpkin Patch in Richmond. To get the most out of this experience, we ask that children bring a hearty lunch, a water bottle, a change of clothes (including socks and shoes), rain gear, and boots. We ask that all children arrive at the centre for 9:00am (or by 8:15am at Bayview for regular bus service) and we will arrive back at the centres by 2:30pm. Leading up to the fieldtrip, we will be researching and making plans for carving. We’ll carve our dream pumpkins when we return to the centres in the afternoon!

Halloween Happenings

Watch out muggles! Our wands are at the ready as we prepare for a Harry Potter Halloween adventure at both sites! As we discuss Harry Potter and explore this fantasy world, we are making important connections to one of our goals – promoting literacy and a love of reading. We are encouraging the children to dive into the fantastic world of Hogwarts through role play, creative projects, and group games.
