$40-a-day BC Government Strike Pay to Parents

Hello All, Please follow this link to the FAQ section of the government’s website for accessing the $40-a-day strike pay out to parents of school age children 12 years old and under. http://bcparentinfo.ca/parent-support-resources/ We’ve gone through the registration process ourselves to better understand what parents are facing, and the online forms are rather straightforward. Just be aware that the site does expire quite quickly, and they have been experiencing some delays due to volume. Strike Plan

As we are all aware the most likely situation for Tuesday and probably the rest of the week is that schools will not reopen. Due to staffing and other operational issues we are unable to operate strike care at all sites. We will operate strike care at the Bayview and Southlands locations only. Further Strike Care Update

Hello All, I know a number of you are getting anxious with the strike continuing on this close to September. Believe me- we understand! We’re doing our best to provide timely progress reports, but unfortunately, all too often, your information is as good as ours. Right now, we’re waiting on the VSB (or VBE) to approve our strike plan requests. The Principals (who returned this week) are being asked to forward these operational requests to their superiors. Now we’re stuck back waiting…. Further news will be posted here as it develops. Cross your fingers (and toes).


BCTF has given notice of increased job action beginning on Monday May 26th. There will be no school instruction on this day. We have been given assurance from BCTF that child care programs will be able to access school premises without having to cross a picket line. JKC will be operating from 7:30am – 6:00pm at our Bayview and General Gordon locations. Due to staffing limitations we are unable to operate at Southlands. FDK on the Way

If you haven’t already heard, the Vancouver School Board (VSB) is implementing Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK), effective September 2011 for Bayview, General Gordon and Southlands schools.  These schools are the second phase of a two-year implementation program.  Several schools are already in session for FDK as of September 2010.  Check out VSB’s District News for more info.
